Conclusion

I feel that I have done done the brief well especially considering all the problems that were encountered along the way. I feel that it would have been better if group/s i worked in worked well together. If everyone had put an even input to the production then it would have come out to a better quality.

I feel that it works well because with is being a rap video although we break the forms and conventions because unlike rap video we did not include guns, drugs, women in a sexual context ect our video was more of the softer side of a rap artist. I showed him not looking at women as an object but more as someone he cared for and loved by giving her everything she wants and doing everything she wants. Considering this the audience can still tell what genre it is because of the few shots where you see Orphan. With these shots although you do not see his face with the way he moves he upper half of his body and his mouth it shows he is young and is of someone of a working class. Also the way he is wearing a dark jacket with a hood suggest that he is also a young rap artist because other rap artist wear hoodie. I'm think if he was wearing a suit this would break the convention and might confuse the audience completely.

With what I have learnt from last year it has helped make the editing of this music video easier. I have also been able to learn new techniques for example I was able to make he video black and white and although it didn't work for this production but might come in use later on when editing is that i learnt two different ways to edit out the background black and white and keep the main object colour. I also learnt how to speed up and slow down footage and how to change the colours and make them change constantly.

Although i didn't use many camera angles I thought I was quite creative with the ones I did use. I really liked the high angle establishing shot I did of the bed room. I also liked the shot I got of a busy road and it changing from night to day.

With the preparation done before hand it made the production easier to do because I was organised with what shots I wanted to film. Unfortunately I was not able to film all of the video because of problems with location and actors although they were planned out in my storyboard and treatment. I feel that my production would have been better if I had got to do so because I found myself with too little footage and the story wasn't as interesting and capturing to the audience as it would have been if I had got to finish filming.

Overall I think our music video works well because it relates to its target audience of 15-25 year olds although you do not see the artist it is obvious he is of this age range because of his girlfriend and with what we do see of him. This also targets a female audience because they are out shopping with is something many young females enjoy doing. I also feel that the music video works well because the story goes with the music and the shots are also interesting in making the audience want to see the artist.

Orphan's Magazine Advert 1st Idea

This is Orphan's magazine advert. I have made the background black and white because the CD cover also has a black and white background. This makes the artist stand out especially because his t-shirt is so bright. I have also made the words glow with the same colour as the t-shirt so that they also stand out because they are important dates.

This could be improved because considering his name is Orphan the colours are too colourful. He should be more dull and remorseful . Also the font looks too bold for the picture and should be more plain.

Filming at home

I decided to do some filming at home of the shots that i want at the beginning of the video. I woke up at 6:30 to set up the camera to look outside the window getting a view of a busy road in the dark with all the street lights and the lights from the cars. I filmed for 35 minutes until the sun had risen. I did this to show that it is morning time. I then went to my mums room and zoomed out from the window and then did a little panning to the bed so that the audience can see the location. I then did a point of view shot from in the bed getting up and putting on slippers to walk to the wardrobe and choosing a jumper.

I borrowed my little brothers slipper and gown and put some of his clothes and shoes in my mum wardrobe to make it look like its Orphans room and that this is how Orphan is dressed in the morning.

Editing

With the footage we already have i decided to start editing because we didn't have Keith in again and the rest of the filming i wanted to do was at home at night and early morning. From what i had learnt from the previous project i started by getting rid of all the filming i didn't want. I then edited all the clips i wanted. Whilst doing this i thought it would look good if we had just shots of Orphans lips rapping so that there would still be the mysterious of who it is behind the camera. I thought this would also work because if i couldn't film Keith i could get someone else and just film them rapping and the audience wouldn't know because it is just of the lips.

I also thought it would be good if i could get all of it in black and white apart from Orphans girlfriend to show the only thing that means a lot to him is his girlfriend and everything else is black and white compared to her.

This music video by Aaliyah has used the effect I want to use within in my video. In the video she is in colour and all the people around her are in black an white. Then when she is dancing she is in colour and so is her partner and everything else is in black and white. This makes her ad the man she is with stand out and shows the importance of their relationship and that he means more to her than anyone else in the room.

Filming in Wood Green

With the new idea i decided to go to Wood Green to show Orphan taking his girlfriend shopping. We thought it would be good to have Orphan following her around a store and allowing her to pick up whatever she wants.

We did a point of view shot of Orphan following his girlfriend down the high road which i then want to speed up. Then we showed Orphan opening the door for his girlfriend. Then took a point of view shot of Orphan holding a basket as his girlfriend picks up shoes she likes. I then wanted to use different camera angles. so we did a high angle long shot of his girlfriend sitting down trying on the shoes and also did a close up of her zipping up the shoe. We then went back to a point of view shot of Orphan walking up behind his girlfriend and had her in the mirror looking at herself. We then went back to her walking around the store putting what she wants into Orphans basket. We then went to the changing rooms and had his girlfriend try on a jacket.

We had some issues with filming because not all stores ill allow us but we found somewhere where they said we could as long as we didn't film any of the fixtures for example the shop name and the sales signs. We also had issues with filming because Keith was not in so i had to try and do the filming as Orphan with out getting myself in the shots.

New idea

Unfortunately we were unable to do the filming in the week because all the group wouldn't turn up in their extra time. Also even though Keith had promised to come in he had missed the whole week so i had decided to come up with a new idea that we don't have to rely on him for so we are not wasting time.

After browsing on YouTube i found a music video that i really liked and would solve most of our problem.

I liked this because most of the video is from a point of view shot. I want to do most of our video from a point on view shot because it will make the audience wonder who it is behind the camera. I also like this idea because i don't have to rely on anyone to come in for me to film i can do it all alone and if people do decide to turn up i will be able to include shots of them within the video like they have done with Trey against a black background.

I have decided to come up with a new synopsis. Orphan will wake up with his girlfriend beside him in bed. He gets up and gets ready to go out. He is then out shopping with his girlfriend buying her what she wants. They then go out to a restaurant where he proposes to her.

I started to draw the beginnings of a storyboard.

I also started with a treatment to the beginning of the storyboard.

Fades from black to a point of view shot from in bed as if Orphan is has just opened is eyes. He then sits up on the edge of the bed allowing us to see his feet. He looks up and out of the beautiful view through the window whilst beginning to stand. He walks over to the wardrobe and begins to go through clothes then turns back to get a view of the bed with a woman laying in it still asleep. It then cuts to Orphan rapping against a clear background. There is another cut to high angel mid shot of Orphan sitting on a sofa rapping. Cut to a close up of Orphan holding his girlfriends hand. Cut to a point of view shot of Orphan looking at the ground whilst walking and then move the camera up to a view of the road a head.

Troubles

Our group is having trouble because our main actor has not been turning up. We then decided because he is unreliable to find someone to be Orphan. The only trouble with this is that we would have to do another photoshoot and start from scratch. We also had trouble with finding someone who was willing to do it. When we did find someone they had said they didnt like the song.

We then came up with the idea of doing it as an all female music video considering the three of us are female and reliable but we then relised this would be hard with the song and we would have to change the storyboard aswell.

We then spoke to keith who had promised us he wont miss no more lessons and then planned a timetable for us to all meet in our own time so we will film the whole of the week.
